We are pleased to share that CEI-Sphere is featured once again in INSIDE Magazine, the publication of the INSIDE Industry Association. The latest issue highlights how European initiatives are moving from experimentation to operational digital ecosystems, and showcases CEI-Sphere’s role in advancing collaboration across the Cloud-Edge-IoT (CEI) continuum.
The article explores how Europe’s digital transformation increasingly depends on coordinated, interoperable infrastructures rather than isolated innovation efforts. Building on earlier initiatives that explored distributed computing architectures, CEI-Sphere contributes to this evolution by supporting large-scale ecosystem coordination and helping translate technical advances into scalable, market-ready solutions.
A central element of CEI-Sphere’s work is supporting the O-CEI and COP-PILOT Large-Scale Pilots as they develop and validate CEI solutions across multiple domains. The article highlights how open calls are becoming an important mechanism to expand participation and bring new innovators into these ecosystems, helping pilots scale beyond initial experimentation.
The feature also spotlights the Hourglass Model, a conceptual framework developed within CEI-Sphere to visualise how stakeholders and technological capabilities interact across the CEI ecosystem. By mapping layers from infrastructure and connectivity to platforms and applications, the model provides a common language for understanding interoperability and ecosystem coordination.
Since its introduction, the framework has been presented at several European events, including discussions co-located with AIOTI Days and dedicated CEI-Sphere webinars, where projects explored how it can support ecosystem mapping and strategic alignment.
The article further highlights CEI-Sphere’s engagement with the wider European digital ecosystem through initiatives such as Open Source Community Day and cross-sector dialogues on topics including vehicle-to-grid (V2G) innovation and digital infrastructure for energy and mobility systems.
By connecting research projects, industry stakeholders, policymakers, and open-source communities, CEI-Sphere contributes to building federated and interoperable digital infrastructures aligned with Europe’s broader digital and industrial strategies.
As the INSIDE Magazine feature emphasises, CEI-Sphere represents an important step in moving from early technological experimentation toward coordinated ecosystems capable of scaling across sectors.
