TwinEU is developing the concept of a Pan-European Digital Twin by federating local digital twins of the electricity system. As the flagship initiative supporting the implementation of the Digitalising the Energy System EU Action Plan, TwinEU introduces innovative tools and models that will enable a more reliable, resilient, and secure operation of Europe’s energy infrastructure, while accelerating the integration of renewable energy sources.
The project’s strategic ambition is to build a unified European digital twin ecosystem by bringing together the expertise of grid operators, market actors, technology providers, and research organisations. Through this collaborative effort, TwinEU aims to support a smarter, more efficient, and future-proof European energy system.
As a pioneering Horizon Europe initiative, TwinEU plays a key role in advancing the digitalisation of the energy sector and shaping Europe’s energy transition.
A core element of the project is the deployment of eight large-scale demonstrations across eleven EU countries, designed to validate the project’s solutions in real-world conditions and illustrate their tangible benefits for the European energy landscape.
